Making a difference
I’m Amira MacCue, founder of Your Money Habit. My mission is to mentor people through the process of feeling ashamed, embarrassed, afraid and/or confused about their money/financial situation to empowered and accomplished. Most of us weren’t taught how to manage money successfully but we think it is something we should just know how to do. If we don’t get it right, we assume something is wrong with us. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I was motivated to start the business because I grew up in a family that was constantly worried about money and that then translated into financial worries as an adult too. In 2005 I’d had enough of living in fear- fear of the future for myself and my family, fear of creditors asking for money I didn’t have, fear that I was a failure.
I made a decision to not live in constant fear anymore and decided to find a better way. I was fortunate to find some great information on money mindsets, a fabulous life coach to support me (there wasn’t any spending planners yet) and a specialised budgeting system that was great at predicting the future so I wouldn’t need to guess if I was on track anymore.
My very first goal was to have enough money put aside to pay the electricity bill when it arrived. After I succeeded there, I focused on starting an emergency fund and eliminating my debts. Making that last payment was such a freeing experience!

After achieving success with my own finances I wanted to help other people achieve the same type of success. I know it can be difficult to trust someone to help you with such a personal challenge but as someone who has gone through it, I know that trying to do it all yourself is extremely difficult and in many cases impossible. It is important to remember that while it may be uncomfortable to deal with, the longer you wait the bigger the gap between where you want to be and where you are gets!
